On the road to recovery from his drug & alcohol addiction, Scott Strode found self-confidence and a new identity in sports. “Every time I stood on top of a mountain or crossed a finish line, I was a little more a climber, and a little less an addict,” Scott explains. Is it possible that creating a community of sober athletes might revolutionize recovery?
Scott Strode is a triathlete, mountaineer, and recovering alcoholic. He’s the Founder and National Executive Director of Phoenix Multisport, offering free programs such as climbing, boxing, CrossFit, yoga, and biking to individuals in recovery from substance use disorder and introducing them to a new supportive network of sober friends. Phoenix is based on Scott’s own discovery that a healthy, active lifestyle has a transformative effect on long-term sobriety. Scott has been recognized worldwide for his work with Phoenix.

15 years not sober.. well there is always tomorrow hey🤣
Where can i find this community
this guy hit the nail on the head, these little traumas accumulate over time and you may go to despair and start feeling worse and worse so you grab a glass more and more
I think we should concentrate on opposite of trauma and that's our blessings and things we can be proud of, currently what we have or which we were lucky to experience, like I have a good wife, healthy children, well paid job, I live in a great country, I have been on great soccer match with my friends, I got a kiss from beautiful girl on a party, I experienced birth of my child, I climbed a mountain, ….
thinking and reminding this stuff is important to beat that trauma inside of each of us
Although I like some of the sentiments in the video, this isn't my experience. I have tried to get sober many times through exercise, meditation, outdoor activities, etc then after 6 months to a year the shine wears off I begin to feel restless, irritable and discontent and I've always went back to drinking and using. The only way I've found to STAY sober (over 4 years) and be happy with being sober is through a 12 step program. Maybe mountain climbing, crossfit could work for some and God bless 🙏, but just know that AA, NA and other 12 step programs are out there for those of you who suffer. There are so many Zoom meetings online, so now is a great time to get sober no matter where someone lives. I can send you some if you're interested.
🙌

Wow!!! I came here expecting and looking for something different to what i heard. Some words here about being little and an emotional sponge really hit home and has calmed a bit of inner turmoil.
LOVE this!
i'm not sober (maybe i should be?) but going to the gym in a kind of power lifting approach got me out of depression and made my drug use much more controlled. i think exercising in a serious way really attract many of the kick seeking addicts and could be a substitute for drugs.
Nobody ever dreams they’re going to grow up to be an addict
does any body drink beer while watching these shows
Wowwwww… Amazing stuff, well done keep going 👌
Good talk! nearing 2 months sober from alcohol here!
In Pennsylvania ?
I have a drinking problem and I am watching videos to help me. I want a healthier life. This video has been the most helpful I have seen. I like to exercise and I have always been good at sports. Maybe this is the answer for my problem. Thanks 😊
why don't you give it a break, if you are traumatized you have no clue what the rest of us are going through, give me a break about your Dad.
so scripted and not real
I am 6 days sober. I love hearing stories of recovery. Almost everyone in my life doesn't understand, but they don't have to. I realize I am not doing it for myself. I am 30 and have next to nothing in my life, but someday I will have a wife and kids, and I am doing this now for them. Good luck to everyone else. You just have to be sober today.
Wow, great personal story. I’m just starting out on my sobriety journey – 11 days…
